Requirements

  • Needs to be approved subject to the standards and requirements and quality assurance requirements set by Fluirse Education Solutions. All courses for delivery as part of the Teacher Summer Course programme are also subject to final approval by the Department of Education and Youth.
  • The proposed course needs to fit in or compliment the existing Fluirse portfolio or Fluirse’s portfolio strategy for the following 3 years.
  • All course providers are responsible for providing course facilitation. The current requirement is one facilitator for every 65 to 70 (students) participants.
  • Course content must make meaningful links to the most up-to-date curriculum specifications. Where new curriculum specifications are issued, content reflecting older curricula will not be considered. 
  • All reading material and research provided to participants is of the highest quality, up-to-date, where possible based in the Irish context and in line with best practice and Department policies and strategies. 
  • The course will be 20 hours in duration and will be organised into five modules which will comprise mainly of self-directed online (asynchronous) learning. Additional self-directed “off-line” learning activities, reading and activities are also encouraged to supplement and enhance the course. 
  • All course designers / authors are experts in their fields with a minimum of degree level education and 4+ years work-related experience

Course Author & Tutor Expectations

  1. To lead learning and guide participants in their achievement of the course learning outcomes. 
  2. To promote the engagement of learners. 
  3. To stimulate, monitor and guide discussion in online forums in a timely manner. 
  4. To lead and facilitate learning in synchronous sessions, where provided. 
  5. To provide opportunities for participants to reflect on their own practice and prepare for implementing course content in their own classrooms. 
  6. To monitor participants’ learning and completion of assignments. 
  7. To provide timely feedback to participants on completed assignments, including feedback to guide participants on the resubmission of assignments, which have not satisfactorily demonstrated the attainment of the learning outcomes. 
  8. To play a role in ensuring the valid participation of those enrolled on the course. 
  9. To ensure that each participant makes a minimum of two appropriate, relevant and meaningful forum posts per module. 
  10. To ensure that each participant completes a minimum of one assignment (forum contributions are not assignments) per Module that demonstrates their achievement of that module’s stated learning outcomes, for example, 
  • online quizzes, interactive activities, games, written tasks, reports, collaborative assignments, uploaded participant podcasts, teaching resources and structured reflective activities 
  1. To ensure each participant completes a reflective learning assignment that demonstrates their achievement of the course’s stated learning outcomes, i.e. the End of Course Assignment. 
  2. To ensure that each participant is enabled to create an electronic record of his/her learning, comprising, at a minimum, their six assignments and postings. 
  3. To ensure that each participant spends a minimum of twenty hours studying the course. 
  4. To ensure that the maximum ratio of one tutor to sixty-five participants (1:65) is adhered to.
